Marbella by car: old town, beaches & day trips
The capital of the Costa del Sol mixes an Andalusian old town with a glossy marina and 27 km of beaches — and it's the perfect base for the western coast and the white villages inland.
- Old-town charm around Plaza de los Naranjos (Orange Square)
- Puerto Banús marina and luxury shopping
- 27 km of beaches, from Cabopino dunes to Puerto Banús
- Gateway to Ronda, Mijas and the white villages
Getting to Marbella by car
From Málaga airport (AGP) it's about 55 km and 45 minutes. Take the AP-7 toll motorway for the quickest run, or the free A-7 (N-340) coastal road if you're not in a hurry. Coming from the west — Estepona, Gibraltar or Sotogrande — the A-7 brings you straight in along the sea.
Parking in Marbella
Don't try to drive into the old town: its lanes are pedestrian and one-way. Leave the car in an underground car park — Plaza de la Marina and Marbella Centro are both a short walk from the casco antiguo. For Puerto Banús, use the paid parking right by the marina.
What to see and do
Start in Plaza de los Naranjos, the orange-tree square at the heart of the old town, then wander the whitewashed lanes to the seafront. Stroll the Avenida del Mar with its Dalí sculptures, walk the beach promenade, and drive 7 km west to Puerto Banús to see the superyachts. Golfers have a dozen courses within 20 minutes.
Beaches and day trips by car
The best sand is spread along the coast: Cabopino's dunes to the east, Playa de la Fontanilla in town, and the bigger resorts toward Puerto Banús. With a car the inland is yours too — Mijas Pueblo (30 min), Ronda's gorge (about an hour) and Gibraltar (45 min) all make easy day trips.
